Certified Nursing Assistant Program

Students learn the necessary skills to properly care for patients in a state-certified Certified Nursing Assistant Program (also referred to as the Basic Nurse Assistant program) with a combination of 80 hours of theory and 40 hours of clinical experience. The program covers interpersonal skills, medical terminology, legal and ethical responsibilities, safe and efficient work practices, infection control, mobility and positioning, data collection, gerontology, nutrition, pet-facilitated therapy, and health and safety precautions. During their practical training, students will work directly with patients at a clinical site under the supervision of the Clinical Instructor. The student is eligible to sit for the State of Illinois Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) exam upon satisfactory completion of CNA classes.

Is Now A Good Time to Become a Certified Nursing Assistant?

Demand for CNAs remains high due to a large aging population and high turnover due to advancement within the healthcare industry.

What Can I Do After Completing a Certified Nursing Assistant Program?

Employment as a nursing assistant can generally be found in nursing homes and hospitals. Home health aides work in private homes and are employed by home health agencies, social service agencies, public health agencies, and nursing associations. Students may elect to begin working as a CNA while continuing their education.

The Certified Nursing Assistant program is a foundational course for registered nursing students, and many CNAs further their education by completing the advanced training necessary to become a registered nurse.  CNA training can get you started on the journey to your dream career.
